JOHN AND BARB BOUWMAN (CO-OWNERS OF JOHNNYB FITT)

JOHN BOUWMAN is certified with CanFitPro as a Personal Trainer Specialist, AFLCA Resistance trainer. Medical Exercise Specialist, Sport Movement Specialist and Level 1 AGATSU Kettlebell instructor.

John and his wife Barb, owners of “JohnnyB Fitt”, provide Personal Training, Medical Exercise Protocol programs, Motivational speeches, Boot camp, and Fitness consultations within Fort Saskatchewan, Gibbons, Redwater, Sherwood Park and Edmonton. For the past 6 years John and Barb have been competing and taking teams into the Canadian Death race in Grand Cache Alberta. Following along with the theme of extreme racing Team JohnnyB Fitt has also entered in the “Sinister7” in Crowsnest Pass as well as the 5 peaks race series.

Married for over 17 years and residents of the Fort since 1997 John and Barb opened “JohnnyB Fitt” in Sept of 2005. John served over 23 years with the Canadian Forces before making his career change, following his dream of owning his own company as a personal trainer in Fort Saskatchewan. Switching careers was a natural progression for John, having taught, competed and coached in numerous military events and courses.

“JohnnyB Fitt” started seeing clients in 2005 and has steadily increased services over the years. Boot Camp was introduced to Fort Saskatchewan in spring 2006 and continues non-stop throughout the year. To date hundreds of local and nearby community residents have gone through JohnnyB Fitt boot camp. Continuing to expand, "JohnnyB Fitt" has now started to instruct at nearby schools, provide motivational speeches and instruct hockey teams and elite level athletes. Involved with the community, John has provided a free Boot Camp to the Boys and Girl club, organized the First “Family Triathlon” and was the Chairman for the 2007 Seniors Games Cycling event.

BARB BOUWMAN left the Candian Armed Forces after 15 years of dedicated service to become more involved with her husband and children.
Once she left the military she decided to go back to school and become a Dental Assistant. After two years of long days and even longer nights she graduated with honours from the NAIT Dental Assisting Program.
John was starting to become very busy, so what should a wife do, but take on more schooling in order to help her husband become successful.
It was inevitable for Barb to become an instructor as she is quite exceptional at giving orders anyway. After a few more courses and a few more exams Barb became certified thru AFLCA in 2006 and now spends her days with her husband of over 17 years.

Barb enjoys teaching Boot Camp and has finally found her calling in life. Telling people what to do all day and being the boss of her husband – what more can a wife ask for?
Barb believes in all people and wants them to be healthy, happy and “WORRY ABOUT THE KIND OF SHAPE YOUR BODY IS IN NOT THE “SHAPE OF YOUR BODY”.

Irene Bobocel

Over my 30 years in the fitness business, I have seen many fitness trends come and go (some have returned!). But what has stayed consistent is the GOAL of fitness - fitness enhances emotional, mental, and physical health. It is a lifestyle that becomes part of your daily routine and is as much a priority as going to work, raising a family and taking care of your home. Once you have established fitness as a lifestyle, there is rarely excuses. In fact, the word "fitness" could easily be called "active living". Combine this with mind and body awareness, and you have a recipe for succesful active living.

Twenty years from now, you may be more disappointed by the things you did not do than the things you did. Active living needs to be a part of your life now so in twenty years you will still be living actively.

In my spare time I run, cross country ski, cycle, breathe, live and smile (a lot). My family is extremely important to me and we all enjoy a healthy, fit lifestyle!

My Qualifications:

AFLCA -Certified Spin, Group, and Resistance Trainer

Zumba Certified Instructor

Roxanne Riess

I was born and raised in Saskatchewan. I was very athletic growing up, playing a wide variety of school and community sports. This began my love affair with sport and athletics.

Teaching is a passion of mine. My first teaching experience was at the local swimming pool in my hometown. There I taught child, teen, and adult swimming lessons and aquasizes for over ten years. It helped me solidify my decision to become a teacher.

In 1995, I graduated from the University of Regina with a Bachelor of Education degree with a Physical Education major. I taught for 12 years splitting my time equally in Southeast Saskatchewan and Southern Alberta. Once my children were born, the decision to be a stay-at-home mom was an easy one. My family is my heart and soul, but the passion to teach was still there. Becoming a group fitness leader was exactly what I needed - I could combine my love of teaching with my love of fitness.

I am honored to be a part of the JohnnyB FITT fitness facility and the JohnnyB FITT family of fitness instructors. I look forward to seeing you in my fitness classes. I promise you will have fun while you sweat!

My Qualifications:

First Aid/CPR

2009 - AFLCA Group Fitness Leader - Spin & Step Designations

2007 - Weight Watchers Leader Fort Saskatchewan

1995 - Bachelor of Education - Physical Education Major

Brooke Bradley

Brooke’s fitness journey started when she was a child being a competitive dancer. To help out her dancing, she joined a local gym as a teenager and after one summer noticed she was stronger. There was no turning back on fitness after that.

Once her time in dance was over, she went to university and completed a degree in Nursing. She is currently a RN at the Fort Saskatchewan Health Center. She took the AFLCA program and for the past 4 years, she has been teaching various classes as well as dry land training for the Sherwood Park Skate Club and high school sports performance classes.

She then felt confident enough to start one-on-one training. She completed the resistance-training portion of AFLCA and started working towards her practical hours but unfortunately her dream was cut short.

In December of 2009, Brooke was in a major car accident where she fractured her pelvis in three different places. After 19 days in the hospital and another couple weeks in a wheelchair her road to recovery started. She was back teaching bootcamp after only three months.

She then joined the JohnnyBFitt team and is truly enjoying her time here so far. She uses her experience from dance and fitness classes along with her determination and resilience to train others and get them to push their bodies to the max.

PAIN IS TEMPORARY, PRIDE IS FOREVER!!!!!

Jamie Hardy

Hello!  My name is Jamie Hardy and I have been teaching Group Fitness classes since 2006.  Over the years, I have taught a wide variety of classes including; bootcamp, cardio kickboxing, strength and resistance training, pre-natal, older adult, core conditioning, and circuit training.  I was born and raised in Drumheller, AB. When I graduated I moved to Lethbridge, AB where I obtained my Criminal Justice diploma.  After completing my diploma, I was hired on with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Branch in Rocky Mountain House.  My husband, 19 month old daughter and I recently moved to Fort Saskatchewan and look forward to being part of the community!

Since I began working out, I have always loved group exercise classes and found the environment to be motivating and friendly.  SO….many group classes later, I thought “what a great job teaching group exercise classes would be, I could do two things I love; working out and motivating others!”  It was then that I decided to pursue my group exercise certification.  I began teaching classes in Stettler, AB and haven’t turned back!!

I am fully committed to my field and my clients, and am experienced and knowledgeable in many areas of fitness and health. I love working with men and women, young and old, who want to get in shape, stay in shape, and carry on a healthy lifestyle. I dedicated myself to helping individuals attain goals and maintain results while forming friendships at the same time!

Anita Hetherington

I grew up in a small BC town where sports were the only things to do, and I was definitely a participant and competitor. Once I graduated from High School I travelled for about 13 years. 5 years in Europe and rest all over Canada. I stayed in many sports, or always found a gym to train in, and kept in shape everywhere I went. Some of the fun things I have done are: Duathalons in Europe, many 10K Running races, Triathlons, coached soccer in England, played on a competitive Volleyball team in Germany, trained in Jujitsu, worked for a Heli Ski Company in Banff, I was a ski representative in England, and also did 2 Figure Competitions to name a few. Those who have come across my path have expressed to me how I should become a trainer or coach.

One thing I have learned while travelling is that everything comes together when it is meant to. Now that I am finally settled down, I can afford to expand my coaching and training skills with Johnny B Fitt. I really want to make a difference in a small community like the one I grew up in and hope I can be a positive influence with those who participate in my fitness life.

My Qualifications:

Adventure Tourism Business Management Certificate

AFLCA - Group Fitness with Portable Equipment

AFLCA - Resistance Training

 Sam Spinelli

I am Fort Saskatchewan born and raised. Living here I have played many sports in the community; soccer, baseball, volleyball, basketball, golf, football, rugby, and martial arts. While playing sports I decided to begin to lift weights to improve my performance in sports. I soon became obsessed with improving my performance in the best way possible. While in high school I would read any magazine or book I could get my hands on that was related to fitness. This obsession has not stopped; I am currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program at Grant MacEwan where I concentrate on Sport Performance. Outside of University I continue reading as much on fitness as possible. I also fill time by training myself, family, friends, and clients in a variety of way to reach their goals. I currently am finishing my second year of University, have a Personal Trainer Specialist certificate from Canfit Pro, and a Level 1 Trainer from Crossfit.

Krista Pitcher-Bennett

I chose to become a part time fitness instructor in 2002 when I graduated from St. Francis Xavier University with my degree in Human Kinetics. I have a love for physical activity, health and fitness and I figured why not motivate others to achieve their fitness goals and journey in a healthy, active lifestyle. In 2002, I became certified with CanFit Pro and began teaching spin and I have been teaching and loving every second of it since!
My personal fitness journey started at nine years old as I completed my first cross country ski race. I continued on racing all over Canada with team Newfoundland. I had a wonderful role model, my dad and we still continue to lead healthy active lifestyles.....my goal is to be that role model to you, to help you achieve & accomplish the many ups and downs you will experience throughout your personal fitness journey!
Besides instructing spin classes I am also a part time dental hygienist and a full time mom to two beautiful children. I believe in motivating, challenging and engaging in my passion for fitness to help you with yours!

Krista Wissink

My passion for fitness goes much farther then just the fitness classes I instruct; I have always loved movement, sport and staying active. The rush you feel when your in the midst of exercise is addicting, as well as the competition if your in sport. I love it!
I have competed in gymnastics, ball hockey, soccer and volleyball to name a few. It was there, that I focused on coaching soccer and combining my love of activity with teaching. So it was a natural fit for me to become a certified instructor when I became a full time mom (of soon-to-be-4). As a fitness instructor I can combine my love of teaching ("coaching") and activity with adults and youth who strive to lead healthy, active lifestyles with staying at home to raise my kidlets. Its always a great refresher as an instructor to be in classes such as the ones I teach at Johnny B Fitt to see all the people who come out to share that common goal of fitness and dont mind a good sweat along the way!
I have been an active participant in many forms and types of fitness classes for 8+ years, however I am only recently certified. I have been teaching for a year (since 2010)- but you would have to give me lots of credit for fighting to get back into shape after the birth of each of my kids. Its not easy putting on a ton of weight then having to take it off again-and experienced at this I am!!!!!!

I plan on working hard in all of my classes and with the participants in them to create and accomplish their goals. I love switching things up and trying new styles or ways of doing things. I am never afraid of a challenge and love overcoming them-pushing my body and yours to burn so changes are made! I am certified in group exercise, spin and TRX as these are my favorite types of ways to overcome those challenges. I plan on pursuing many other certifications to vary my experience and knowledge, as well as becoming a personal trainer and obtaining a degree at a post secondary level. That way I can be a better middle man for my participants and help them obtain their goals in their fitness journeys. I look forward to meeting and leading you in many classes as we engage in our fitness goals together
